Life is good, I started a new job and moved to a new house.
It's been a long time since I checked in here. But that is for a good reason! My hard work on the job hunt finally paid off and I got a new job! I am now working at 1Password and in a new domain (billing), which is great. I achieved my stated goals at the beginning of my job hunt of finding a larger, more stable company, a backend position (preferably in Go), and a remote position. I'm so lucky to have nailed all three of those objectives, and the onboarding so far has been smooth, with helpful co-workers and good documentation for the most part (no, really).
I also moved to a new house at the beginning of the year. This has been a really great upgrade for myself and my daughter; being in a better school district, with more space and a yard finally! We can now take walks in a safe, walkable neighborhood, I can park in a garage, I don't have neighbors on my walls smoking all day, blasting music in the middle of the night, and less chance of getting burgled again. Not to mention, the kitchen space! I owe my parents a huge debt of gratitude for paying a visit, helping me with the move, and fixing me up with some new furniture items. Having a proper dining area, a routine for homework and eating together, is really a game changer here as far as building good habits for us both.
I still maintain a continual set of goals, both personally and professionally. To rebuild the savings lost while out of work, and get my health together. To gain confidence and fight imposter syndrome. To get better technical skills and become better at documentation at work. For now, I aim to just put the blinders on to the imminent collapse of the country and hope by some miracle we avoid the worst, and I can ride it out and come out the other end in good shape.
